Creationism is a belief based on faith in a book called The Bible that has a story, called Genesis, that says the universe was created in six days, with man being created on the last day. Debunkers of this ancient myth can say that no major natural occurence has ever taken less than a week to be fully formed. The Earth took billions of years to gain the capacity to support life, and that has been proven by hard scientific facts. Man was once an ape-like creature that could do no more than what modern day apes do now. That has hard scientific fact as well.
To further support the latter example if you take a look at animals they even show evidence of evolving from previous species of animals that once roamed the Earth. However, Creationism states that the divine plan would not be so divine if such a thing as "evolution" existed. It would suggest imperfections in a supposedly perfect creation. That God's plan is somehow flawed so we have to change to accomodate those flaws. God is supposedly, "infallible".
I'll tell you right now that I am not a Christian. I used to be one, but I renounced my faith when I was 16 (I'm currently 20) after seeing how blind its followers are and how much hypocrisy runs in the organization. However, I still believe in a God, and believe in doing as much good in the world as possible.
Back to the topic...
My question to those who support Creationism is: Did you ever stop and think that, just maybe, Evolution may be apart of God's plan? If you stop and take a look at how we live our lives today you could get this concept. Our lives are made up of events that occur everyday. Sometimes these events are much more challenging than others. When we accomplish our goals and overcome those obstacles we grow in wisdom, maturity, and understanding of our world. Simply, we EVOLVE in our thinking.
If we didn't need to do that then none of us would have a reason to exist because everything has already been done for us. The whole reason we exist is to eliminate disconent, and strive to make our lives better. That is the whole reason for even getting up in the morning, and that is the reason as to why we are here in the first place.
Evolution is just that; overcoming natural obstacles to ensure survival. It's a much more drastic action of eliminating obstacles that may imped life to attain a content feeling with life. For animals that's: gaining webbed feet, a thicker coat of fur, larger teeth, flight, etc. For us, we gained intelligence. During that evolution we managed to straighten our backs, loose almost all of our fur, and attain much larger brains than those of our very distant ancestors.
Why did that happen?
No one can give a reason as to why such a change would occur for our species. For chaning our posture, some may have figured out that it's easier to travel that way, and as for loosing our fur it could be possible that since we had gotten that bigger brain, we became smart enough to know that the hide of the animal that we killed for food could be used as something to keep warm with. The being who made us probably realized that we wouldn't need all of that hair anymore. Plus we make full use of an animal's remains; nothing is wasted. As for getting the bigger brain, those were the cards that we were dealt. Those are some personal theories that I've come up with as to why these things would happen, but the fact that it happened is proven by physical evidence. Creationism doesn't have a single shred of evidence to support their claims, except for a book written 2,000 to 3,000 years ago when we didn't know ANYTHING about the history of the world.
The Bible should never be treated as a tool for understanding natural history. It is merely a book filled with stories that may help people with certain problems in their lives. Nothing in there should be taken literally. Not a single word.
